Softball Splits DH with Dillard

NEW ORLEANS – It was a tell of two games as the Talladega College Softball team split a pair of shutout contests with the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils Monday evening. Dillard won the first matchup 5-0, and the Tornadoes won game two 7-0.
 
GAME ONE – Dillard 5, Talladega 0
 
The Lady Bleu Devils got on the board early with a run scored by De'Asia Davenport. The hosting team added three more runs in the fifth, capped by an RBI double from Mekayla Marshall. Aniah Jones added a run in the sixth to collect a 5-0 victory for Dillard.
 
Marianna Perez, Monet Brown, K'yanna Wimbish, and Haylee Clausell collected a hit in the loss.
 
Miranda Butler pitched six innings with four strikeouts, allowing nine hits, five earned runs, and a walk.
 
GAME TWO – Talladega 7, Dillard 0
 
The Tornadoes dominated the second game of the doubleheader. Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez received an RBI in the second inning when Gabriele Garcia scored. Gutierrez later scored to push the lead to 2-0.
 
Rayna Davis used a solo home run in the fifth to go up 3-0, and Elisa Clay doubled to knock in Perez in the sixth to move to a 4-0 advantage.
 
Garcia added to the lead with a solo homer in the seventh, and Clausell doubled to knock in two runs to reach the 7-0 final.
 
Clay, Garcia, and Gutierrez collected a pair of hits, and Clausell led with two RBIs. Brown and Monet collected stolen bases.
 
Gutierrez threw seven innings, posted four strikeouts, and surrendered eight hits and a pair of walks.
 
The road trip continues for Talladega College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, with a doubleheader against Rust College starting at 1 p.m. on April 18.
