TALLADEGA, Ala.-- Heading back to Nashville, TN., the Talladega Tornadoes gymnastics team is set to compete at the "Kidney Care Women's Gymnastics Championships" in Nashville, TN. on Saturday, March 16th.
This Championship will feature the Talladega Tornadoes, the University of Georgia Bulldogs, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, the University of Maryland, and the University of Pittsburgh in session one at 12:30 p.m. CT, and the Auburn University, the Ohio State University, the University of Kentucky and the Fisk University at 7:30 p.m. CT. Competition is set for Saturday, March 16, 2024. Fans can tune in on YouTube on Saturday for live score updates and video.
Saturday's competition in Nashville will recognize and bring awareness to the severity and reality of kidney disease in today's society. The Tornadoes will wear green ribbons to support and bring awareness to this cause, which affects several significant figures in our sport, including Suni Lee who is currently battling kidney disease while working towards her second Olympic Games.
"It's bittersweet approaching our last regular season meet," said Talladega head coach Aja Sims-Fletcher. "We are so excited and more prepared than ever to put all of our hard work out on the competition floor. We have put so much of our hearts and dedication into this inaugural team, and we are ready to put our heart and souls into this last season's team performance."
Continuing their history-making season, the Tornadoes were last in action on March 8, as they traveled to the University of Alabama to compete with the University of Illinois and the University of Minnesota.
Kyrstin Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) led the Tornadoes on vault tying her career-high score of 9.825.
Kiora Peart-Williams (Ontario, Canada) and
Alexa Chuy (Scotch Plains, New Jersey) led the Tornadoes on bars, scoring a 9.625 and a 9.6 respectively.
Alondra Maldonado led the Tornadoes on beam scoring a 9.75 followed by
Sidnei Heubach (Phoenix, Arizona) scoring a career-high score of 9.725. Chuy (Scotch Plains, New Jersey) held the top score of 9.675 for the Tornadoes on floor, followed by Johnson and
Landyn Williams (Buford, Georgia) each scoring a 9.625.
