Women’s Basketball Tumbles to #3 Seed Fisk

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's basketball team felt the defensive pressure from Fisk University and fell in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship Friday afternoon in Birthright Alumni Hall on the campus of Stillman College. Fisk defeated Dega 67-49.

Arieonna Booker turned in a steal performance as the newly crowned GCAC Freshman of the Year finished with 19 points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists, and a block. Amayla Sharif also reached double figures with 10 points, four rebounds, four steals, and an assist. Brooklyn Talton led on the boards with seven rebounds.

Fisk never trailed in the contest and used a solid defensive effort to increase separation. After the Bulldogs won the first quarter 19-13, Fisk kept the pressure on and limited Talladega to just 26.1 percent (8-of-30) from the floor in the first half on the way to a 38-25 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs held Dega to eight points while scoring 15 in the third quarter, but the Tornadoes found some rhythm in the fourth and won the quarter 16-14 on the way to the 67-49 final.

Despite a size disadvantage, Talladega won with points in the paint, 28-26, and in second-chance points, 12-2.

Five Bulldogs finished in double figures, led by 13 points and seven rebounds from Zipporah Davis. Jayla Bibbs posted 12 points, nine rebounds, and five steals, while Liz Gibbs and Maya Buckhanon scored 11. De'Lesia Scott rounded out the quartet with 10 points.
