Defense Stifling for Women’s Hoops Win over Oakwood

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The return to the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center for the Talladega College women's basketball team proved to be successful in a 58-37 win over the Oakwood University Ambassadors Thursday night in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.
 
The Tornadoes (7-14, 4-6 GCAC) never trailed in the contest and jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Oakwood (6-15, 4-8 GCAC) scored a point nearly four minutes into the game.
 
Talladega turned in a tremendous defensive effort and limited the Ambassadors to 20.4 percent (11-of-54) from the floor and 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from beyond the arc.
 
Meanwhile, a trio of Tornadoes finished in double figures. Amayla Sharif led all scorers with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Arieonna Booker posted a double-double thanks to 13 points and 11 rebounds. Makayla Arnold added 10 points and eight rebounds.
 
As a unit, Dega shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the floor and came away with 11 steals.
 
Talladega College returns to action Saturday on the road in Nashville, Tennessee against Fisk University at 2 p.m.
