Booker Beats Buzzer in Comeback Win for Women’s Hoops over Tougaloo

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's basketball team trailed most of the game but took the lead just in time to claim a 54-53 comeback win over the Tougaloo College Bulldogs in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
 
Talladega trailed 53-51 with nine seconds left when Arieonna Booker connected on a game-winning three-point basket to cap the comeback.
 
Booker led Talladega with 11 points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Amayla Sharif reached double figures by scoring 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Makayla Arnold gave an excellent performance on the boards with 12 rebounds and added five points, four blocks, and a pair of steals.
 
The Tornadoes (8-15, 5-7 GCAC) trailed 45-41 entering the fourth and further behind 15 seconds in after a layup from Jalaceia Smith to move the score to 47-41 in favor of Tougaloo (6-16, 5-10 GCAC).
 
Talladega responded with a 7-0 run capped by a tip-in by Arnold on an offensive putback to move the score to 48-47 and give Dega the team's first lead in the game with 4:55 left.
 
Morgan Williams and Smith hit back-to-back layups to put the Bulldogs back in the lead at the 2:19 mark with a score of 49-48. However, on the next possession, Arnold splashed a three-pointer to tie the game at 51-51.
 
Sharisse Bridges hit a pair of free throws for another lead change in favor of Tougaloo to go up 53-51 with 1:33 left before Booker hit the big shot with nine seconds left to secure the 54-53 victory.
 
It was a hard-fought victory for Dega, who trailed by as much as 13 points with 1:40 left in the first quarter before battling back to claim the win.
 
Smith led Tougaloo with 13 points and four steals. Rodreckia Parker scored 10 points.
 
Talladega College hit the road for the final time this regular season with a trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, to face Philander Smith College on Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
