Women’s Hoops Drops HBCUAC Road Trip to Fisk

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Talladega College women's basketball team kept up with the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs, but the home team pulled away in the second and third quarters on the way to a 69-47 win over the Tornadoes Thursday evening in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference East Division action.
 
Kayla Pryor finished with 11 points and five steals, while DeJaria Lewis pulled down 11 rebounds and added six points and a pair of steals.
 
Both teams battled in a tough defensive opening quarter with Fisk edging Talladega 12-10 after the first 10 minutes. However, the Lady Bulldogs more than doubled the offensive output of the first with a 28-16 edge in the second quarter to take a 40-26 lead to the half.
 
Out of the halftime break, Fisk outscored the Tornadoes 22-10 to move ahead 62-36 after 30 minutes of action. Talladega took the fourth quarter advantage, 11-7 but could not close the large gap as Fisk came away with a 69-47 home win.
 
Dega shot 26.1 percent (18-of-69) from the floor, 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from three, and 50 percent (5-of-10) at the free throw line.
 
Jayla Bibbs led a trip of Fisk players in double digits with 21 points, 20 rebounds and six assists. Teniya Williams added 16 points and Courtney Lumpkins scored 13.
 
The Lady Bulldogs finished 46.3 percent (25-of-54) overall, 41.7 percent (10-of-24) beyond the arc, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) at the line.
 
Talladega College returns to action Saturday at 5 p.m. against East Division opponent Wilberforce (Ohio) University.
