NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Talladega College men's basketball team picked up its second conference win of the season with a 60-55 victory on the road against Fisk University tonight.
Corey Sands tallied a career-high 28 points breaking his previous high 20 points that he registered in last season.
Talladega (8-2, 2-0) jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the game before a Fisk three-pointer made it a one-point difference with 14:58 left. Both teams went back and forth to find themselves tied twice with the last time being at 11. Fisk (4-9, 2-2) used an 11-0 run to break the tie and take a 22-11 with just a little over six minutes remaining. Talladega chipped away the lead but trailed 36-23 going into the locker.
Talladega's
Shaun Walker got the scoring starting in the second half with a layup to cut the lead to 11. The Tornadoes put together a 15-4 run to trim the lead to 42-40 with just over 11 minutes left in the game. Fisk was able to add some insurance as it took a 47-42 lead but Talladega was able to keep the difference to single digits as both teams traded baskets. Lamont Sams gave Talladega the lead at 2:42. Fish tied things up but
Tre Simmons broke the tie for Talladega with a minute and a half to go.
Wilfred Campbell and Sands tallied the next three points to secure the win for the Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes shot 40% (22 of 55) from the floor while shooting 35/3% (6 of 17) from three-point range.
Both teams were evenly matched on the glass but Talladega held the edge 38 to 33.
Sands finished the game with 28 points going 9 of 17 from the field and 6 of 13 from three. He grabbed four boards in the process while being the only player to play a full 40 minutes for Talladega.
Sams led the team in rebounds with 10 and blocks with five.

Jordan Brewer tallied 11 points while going 5 of 8 from the floor.
The Tornadoes are back on the road this Saturday when they face conference foe Wilberforce University at 4 p.m.
