Women’s Basketball Drops Final Game of HBCUAC Crossover to Dillard

NEW ORLEANS – The Talladega College women's basketball team faced stiff defense from the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils fell 63-47 Monday evening in the squad's final contest of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference crossover event.
 
DeJaria Lewis led the team with 10 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double. Kameron Jones and Shaniya Cribbs both added eight points.
 
Dillard pushed to a commanding 24-9 lead after a quarter of play. While the second quarter was closer with a20-16 point spread in favor of the Lady Bleu Devils, the Tornadoes trailed 44-25 at the half.
 
Talladega closed the gap with a 17-10 edge in the third to cut the advantage to 54-42 heading into the final 10 minutes. Neither team provided much offense in the fourth as Dillard outscored Dega 9-5 on the way to the 63-47 final score.
 
The Tornadoes shot 25 percent (16-of-64) from the floor, 14.3 percent (4-of-28) from the arc, and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) at the free throw line.
 
Skylar Christmas led a trio of Bleu Devils in double figures with 15 points. Cassidy Lowe and Faith Alessandra both posted 12 points.
 
Dillard finished 39.7 percent (25-of-63) overall, 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from three, and 40 percent (2-of-5) at the line.
 
Talladega College is done for the winter break and resume action January 3 as the Tornadoes host an HBCUAC crossover and will face Wiley University at 2 p.m.
