Men's Basketball Has Winning Streak Snapped By Morehouse

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College men's basketball team had its 14-game win streak snapped tonight in a 58-52 loss to visiting Morehouse College. The Tornadoes are now 16-2 on the season while the Maroon Tigers moved to 12-6 on the year.

Talladega opened up the game with an 8-2 lead but Morehouse was able to use an 8-2 run to tie things at 10 with 11:07 left on the clock. The Tornadoes retook the lead to go up 17-13, but the Maroon Tigers used a pair of foul shots and a jumper to tie the game at 17. Morehouse used that spark to string together a 9-2 run and go up 26-18 with 1:36 left. Talladega's Sam Lamont drained a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 26-20 before time expired in the half.

Coming out of halftime, Morehouse got on the board first with a layup to make it, 28-20. Lamont was able to make it a seven-point game as he hit his third free throw in his last four attempts. The Maroon Tigers responded with a jumper, but Wilfred Campbell and Lamont tallied the next four points to make it 30-25 Morehouse lead. Both teams went back and forth with Morehouse holding a slight 32-30 edge, but Lamont drained a three with 13:31 on the clock to put Talladega in front by one. Both teams once again traded points until they found themselves tied at 37 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Morehouse then used a 10-0 run, its largest of the game to go up, 47-37. The Tornadoes attempted to chip away at the lead but it wasn't enough as Morehouse held on for the 58-52 win.

Talladega's bench tallied 23 points to Morehouse's 13 with 16 of the 23 coming in the second half. The Tornadoes registered 10 second chance points while only allowing two.

Talladega won the battle on the boards 37 to 28 with 12 of them coming on the offensive side.

The Tornadoes shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the line while going 5-of-18 (27.8%) from beyond the arc.

Lamont tallied a double-double tonight while registering 12 points and grabbing 11 boards. He finished with a team-high two blocks.

Campbell finished the night with 16 points to lead all Talladega players. He went 5-of-6 from the line while finishing with a team-high three 3-pointers made.

Sands was the third Tornado to score in double-digits as he closed out the night with 10 points.

Talladega travels to New Orleans on Monday, Jan 29 when it faces conference opponent Southern University at New Orleans at 6 p.m.
