Men's Basketball Scores 29 Points Off Turnovers To Down LeMoyne-Owens

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College men's basketball team picked up its second win of the season with a 79-49 home victory over NCAA Division II opponent LeMoyne-Owen College this evening.

Talladega (2-0) jumped to a 6-0 start off of back-to-back three-pointers from Wilfred Campbell to start the game. LeMoyne-Owen cut the lead to one off a fastbreak and a three-pointer to make it a 6-5 game. The Tornadoes pushed their lead to 12-8 with just under 14 minutes remaining before stringing together a 7-4 run to make it, 19-12.  The Magicians chipped away to come within three and make it a 21-18 Talladega lead, but Corey Stands sparked a 14-6 Talladega run when he laid one in at 6:41, which put the Tornadoes up 35-24 going into halftime.

Campbell started the second half off like he did the first half but this time he hit four three-pointers while teammate Ethelbert Anum laid one in to push Talladega to 49-28 with 15:55 remaining.  The Tornadoes scored the next six points before the Magicians scored the next five points off a three, and a pair of foul shots to make it, 55-33.

With 10:27 remaining in the contest, Talladega looked to put the things out of reach and it started with a 12-4 run to make it, 67-39. After that, the Magicians' magic couldn't keep Talladega at arm's reach as the Tornadoes cruised to a 30-point victory.

Talladega was able to capitalize off the 20 turnovers by the Magicians and turn them into 29 points. The Tornadoes' bench dropped 28 of its 35 points in the second half.

The Tornadoes had 11 players who finished with two or more rebounds that contributed to the team's 40 rebounds for the game.

Campbell led Talladega in points with 18 as he went 6-of-7 from beyond the arc in 23 minutes of action. He was joined by Sands who drained 10 points, and he was one of only Tornadoes to go to the foul line. He went a perfect 1-of-1.

JaVonni Bickham paced the Tornadoes on the board as he grabbed six rebounds while dishing out three dimes and scoring four points.

Talladega is back in action this Saturday when it faces its first round trip of the season at 3 p.m. when it faces Miles College.
