Tornadoes Open Season with Road Win over Oakwood

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 2022-23 season for the Talladega College women's basketball team is off to a successful start as the Tornadoes grabbed a 71-66 victory over the Oakwood University Lady Ambassadors Saturday evening in Ashby Auditorium in the first contest of the season. 
 
The win marked the 11th straight season-opening win for Dega and the first win for new head coach Akia Stanton with the Tornadoes. 
 
Dega was in control throughout the contest and outscored the Lady Ambassadors 21-16 in the first half and 33-26 in the second half on the way to the 71-66 victory. 
 
A trio of double-digit scorers led Talladega, including a phenomenal effort from Je'Nya Wilder posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds alongside three assists. Makayla Transou added 14 points and five rebounds, and Amayla Sharif posted 13 points.
 
Brooklyn Talton made her presence felt on the boards with nine rebounds and Amir Brown contributed with seven points and eight rebounds.
 
Two players reached double figures for Oakwood as Nekaya Williams finished with 19 points, and Hannah Cohn scored 14.
 
Next up for the Tornadoes is a trip to Pulaski, Tennessee, for a matchup against the University of Tennessee Southern. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Nov. 3.
